ON MENTAL ILLNESS IN AMERICA. THIS ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN BY ME ON HELIUM.COM, IT WAS RECENTLY REJECTED. A NICE ED A NICE LADY RACHELLE DID EDITING WORK

It is ironic. I live a few blocks in two different directions away from an exclusive suburb which has doctors, lawyers and other successful professional people. These are beautiful homes with luxurious automobiles, manicured lawns with wonderfully landscaped gardens and these people are highly educated. I have been told by some people I know in social work, law enforcement, and some friends of mine, many of these people have very troubled home and even work lives. Clearly this shows money and material things are nice and have their place in our society, though they do not guarantee a happy life!
I have a few friends and some relatives that are long time recovering drug and alcohol addicts and have known some for well over ten years. I am not a drinker and the only drugs I take or have ever taken are medications prescribed by my physicians and over the counter. and I am careful even with those. I have been told by some people I know that are attending alcoholics anonymous, drug addicts anonymous, etc.when they first stated attending their meetings they were shocked at all the professional people ( doctors, lawyers, professors, nurses, etc ) alone with homemakers (male and female) homeless, laborers and people from all walks of life who attend their meetings come in vehicles as diverse as their owners.
I have read and been told how so many women and children are emotionally, physically, sexually abused in this country and this includes the well to do and poor. The number of working poor and homeless is rising each year and the dollar value is declining and while changes take place in society, crime increases. People all over the US are losing their homes right now due to this prime mortgage horror and the biggest so called minority are losing out. The real minority, i.e. the rich are the biggest minority in this country.
I have heard and believe mental illness is an ever increasing problem in this country. I've seen examples of this near where I live, even in the condo building where I live a lady that lost her job and her boyfriend left her to jump from a fifth floor balcony in my building about eight years ago. A stabbing also occurred here earlier this year. I could give many more examples and it seems to me that drug and alcohol use are rapidly increasing. The Bible and the things of God seem to be a joke to many. The Lords name is used in vain more than in prayer and many material things given or acquired by a person are spiritually starving people with no direction, no or little love, and this serves little purpose in their life, and is like giving a loaded gun to a child. What is inside a person is more important than fancy clothes and status.
